Scarred For Life

Waiting to enter the Plymouth departure scene we were talking about the battle sequence. One of the Actor Techs remarked that he saw the show when he was a child and was terrified by the gunfire and carnage that takes place. He said it scarred him for years.
I think this might be a catchy new advertising hook:
“The Lost Colony – Scarring Children Since 1937.”

  1. I wonder if he saw the show in 1967, when Nick Cohn, in the act of stealing an innocent colonist child from in front of the chapel, was making for the stage left exit but was hit in the back of the head by a solid plug of wax fired from downstage right. Whoever made up the blank twelve gauge shells, thought it was a good idea to empty half the powder ( to reduce the noise ) and re-fill the shell all the way to the top with wax. On one hand, it was the best fall I ever saw; I was running a followspot at the time and turned to Ben Cherry, the other followspot operator and complimented Nick on his ability to hit the ground at full speed and slide on his stomach. The child ran back to his/her mother, and the lights faded. The Chamber Scene ended with the Historian crossing slower than usual down the stage left ramp to the main stage. I had him in my spotlight, which I tightened down as far as I could when I realized two new colonists in capes were dragging Nick's ( seemingly ) lifeless body off left.

But on the other hand I think that's the night it was decided to cut the shells in half, so someone always knew it was a half-load.
